Terrible of the war

December 25, 2008

Now a days war is the major terrible burning problem in our Sri Lanka. Our brave soldiers fight and scarify their lives to escape our motherland by terrorists.
Before few days ago I went to see a brave army soldier who was injured in the war. After treated his wounds he was discharge, but still he was on his bed. He can’t do anything without other help. Now he was helpless. In the left side of his body was damaged very seriously.
When we went to see him he told his story and share his experiences in the war with us. I heard him very well. Even he see we feel very sad. Still he can’t sit alone.
On that day there was four soldiers with him. Everyone killed and only his life was saved. He had seen a terrorist throw a bomb at him but at that moment he couldn’t do anything, he shouted loudly by calling help. After he fell down. Then he didn’t anything. After he had admitted to the general hospital in Colombo.
He said us not only him there was a lots of soldiers were injured by the mission. They also had terrible damages. Some became disable people forever. Among lots of injured soldiers fight between death and life. How sad? This is the real condition in the war. So we should think about our brave soldiers and every time we should honor and respect for them. They are noble person in our motherland.
We don’t want war. We need only peace. Why everyone can’t think like that?

My lovely pet

December 25, 2008

Animals are beasts. They are low level intelligent beings than human. But they are very innocent and sometime they great than human. They don’t envious others. So they close to our lives.
Although “Blacky” was a bitch, she was my lovely pet in my house. Unfortunately, suddenly on 24th of November my Blacky died. On that day when I got up in the morning I could hear that my puppy died. I was unable to bear her death. I cried a lot near her death body. She was only 7 years old.
Still I can remember before 7 years old I brought her to our home from our neighbor’s house. Since that day she was our lovely pet. She could understand well, what we told her and she was tame us. She was a good watcher and protector in our house. Everyone was fear her, so her body was dark black and she looks like a terrible dog. Not only that she was a good hunter. Cats, dogs, poly cats were huntered by our Blacky. So they never came to our garden.Sometime our neighbors complain us that their pets were killed by our Blacky. Specially she was obey to our father. When father called to our Blacky she ran soon near him and went her kennel.
I never seen like such dog. In it’s childhood it was a cute puppy. It watched television with us sitting on a chair. In the every morning she came to our rooms and wake up us by jumping our beds. Actually she was a real lovely pet. When she got motherhood she was a real affectionate mother to her kids.
When we go out she was looking forward and when we come back she welcome us like a lovely person.
Although my Blacky died she saved her good qualities and mementoes with in our memory. But every day I feel lonely.

If we think others

November 27, 2008

Human beings are the greatest living beings in society. They can’t live alone need the help of others.
When we think about our selves, how often we need another’s help in our day by day activities? At home, we have to get a parent , brother, or sister to help to us. In the school we have to get our teacher, or a friend to help us with our functions. Do you think you can live without your neighbor’s or relative’s help? It is very difficult. We can’t live alone without help from others.
When someone lives alone he has to face physical and mental pressures.
We should realize we have many duties and responsibilities to our society. Even our Load Buddha preached that we have duties and responsibilities when we live in the society as children, parents, neighbors, relations, and priests.
If everyone did their duties, they don’t have to struggle to fill their rights. But now people in modern society don’t think of others. They live competition with each other. They think only about themselves. They try to defeat others. So now we have to face a terrible war. It is the major problem in our country.. We may be different in race, religion, cast, and nationality but we are all human. Every one has same color of blood. So, why we can’t think of others?
We should have great qualities like generosity, mercy, honesty, kindness, and goodness…. We should defeat our bad qualities like anger, hatred, envious, selfishness. Then we can win the world as great humans.

The special ceremony of Galkema Rajamaha viharaya

November 7, 2008

On 5th of November was a special day for our village temple.  The ceremony of offering of “Katina” robes to the monks was held on that day at our village temple.
In our country, the months of July to October are a time of retreat for monks. On Essala poya day devotees invite the monks of their village temple to retreat by giving a sheaf of betel. This is the time the monks spend their time in meditation.
In the past, the people lived with religious thoughts through out the season.
Katina robes are offered only once a year. It is a great opportunity for all Buddhists. “The Galkema Rajamamaha Viharaya” held its Katina ceremony in a big way. On the previous day a special flower pooja was held in the evening. The next day the “Katina robes pooja” was held. In the morning an alms giving was held and after the end of this merit, the afternoon almsgiving was held.
For a hermitage to observe the “retreat season” it has to be supported by its devotees. During “Vas season” devotees provide for monks by giving alms and supplying their needs. Very often, within these three months, devotees divide the days and offer lots of things. These alms are called “retreat alms”. Within this period many poojas were held by devotees.
At the end of these three months, pirith chants and alms givings are held by all Buddhists.
The day the “robes of katina” are offered is celebrated in a special way in all temples. Every Buddhist engages in this great occasion. Giving Katina robes is one of the eight great merits that are mentioned in Buddhism.
At dawn a group of devotees go around the village allowing the villagers to touch the “Katina” robes. It is believed that this is a great merit for us. Afterwards the robes are bought to the temple by a special perahera (procession). The robes are brought to the temple before sun rise and given to a special monk of the temple called an “Upasampada” after holding special ceremonies.

The special memorial incident in my life

October 20, 2008

On 15th of October was a very special day for me.  I went to Siththangalla for the first time and have many happy memories from the visit.
I got an idea to go to Siththangalla to see Perahere. My sister and I discussed it and in the morning. We went our cousin’s house in Wallasmulla. It is close  to Sittangalla . The Perahere is held on special occasions like the one at Devinuwara during the same period.
Siththangalla is very sacred, historical and ancient temple in the Southern province. I didn’t know of its legend until I went there. I heard that the temple was build before Mulgirigala. It is also like Mulgirigala rock temple which is also situated on a rock.
That night at about 9.00 p.m, I went to see Siththangalla Maha perahera. Vindya, my brother, my cousin’s two sisters and their mother went with me. We went there by bus, but we also had to go on foot for some distance.
First we went to worship at Siththangalla temple. At night the surroundings were decorated with lights and decorations. When we climbed to the top of the rock we could see the whole area which was a very beautiful scene. But it became unclear because of the mist and darkness. We got a little wet.
After worshiping we climbed down and went shopping. There are various goods like toys, ornaments, dresses, flowers, clay pots and sweet meals etc.
When the Perahera started we went shopping and at the end we felt very tired. So we stayed in a bus to rest till the Perahera came near our place.
We got a nap in the bus and suddenly my sister woke up me. The Perahera was very beautiful with about 18 elephants and dancing groups. Elephants were decorated with nice new dresses and they went in the Perahera very looking proud. They added to Perahera’s unforgettable scenery.
The Perahera started about 1.00 a.m. and it finished about 3.30 a.m. When we came back it was at about 4.00 a.m. This is the first time I was seen Perahera in the night time. So it is very new experience for my life and an unforgettable  sweet memory.

Smoking is very harmful and threatful task in the present

October 20, 2008

Smoking is very harmful present day threat
Smoking is a very bad habit and a useless deed. It effects are harmful to all creatures.
In the modern world most people are addicted to smoking. This is a major problem today.
The general belief is that tobacco affects only the lungs. This is a wrong impression.
He effects of passive smoking are very dangerous. The harm caused from passive smoking is incurable.
In the country over 40 percent of adults and 25 percent of the overall population have the smoking habit. But most of them ignore the warnings.
Smoking harms everyone’s organs like brain, eyes, mouth, throat, lungs, stomach, pancreas, kidneys, and bladder. .
Maternal smoking affects unborn children. Some times it may be the cause of death.
People who want to give up this bad habit but they don’t know how to do it.
If someone wants to quit smoking, she or he must first realize the general belief that tobacco affects only the lungs is false. I think if people can give up this bad habit, it is very great service to the whole society.
